We are pleased to share that ODUPD obtained their Certified Crime Prevention Campus Community in 2020. Of the 340 law enforcement agencies in Virginia, only 12 communities and 4 colleges & universities have the Certified Crime Prevention Certification.
The program encourages law enforcement agencies to develop and implement collaborative community safety plans. Furthermore, it provides an ongoing process by which law enforcement agencies can reassess and update their plans to address emerging community safety issues.
To obtain certification, a law enforcement agency must meet 12 core community safety elements/strategies augmented by a minimum of seven approved optional elements.
